Winter Sports
700 km of slopes, time to ski!
Salzburgerland is the ultimate destination for many winter sports enthusiasts who love skiing or snowboarding. The mountains here are generally less extreme than those further west in the Alps. Here’s a closer look at three ski areas:
About the Ski Areas
Wald im Pinzgau is located between three ski areas: the expansive Zillertal Arena, the Ski-Arena Wildkogel, and the Kitzbüheler Alpen ski area. All are easily accessible by car or the free ski bus.
Ski Pass
The Zillertal Arena Ski Pass and the Zillertal Superskipass are valid for both the Zillertal Arena and the Ski Arena Wildkogel in Neukirchen am Großvenediger. With a valid ski pass, you can ride the ski bus for free between Neukirchen, Wald, Krimml, and Königsleiten.
Ski School
The Sports & More Unterwurzacher shop is located in the center of Wald im Pinzgau and is just a short walk from Chalet Bauerhaus. The shop also houses a ski school offering lessons for all skiing and snowboarding levels. Professionally trained instructors ensure plenty of fun and success for all ages. This ski school is affiliated with the one in Königsleiten and offers courses there as well.

Cross-Country Skiing
Wald im Pinzgau features its own trails stretching over 7 kilometers. There’s also a connection to the 200 km-long Pinzgau Trail, which runs from Krimml to Zell am See.
Snowboarding
The Zillertal Arena offers many options for freestylers. The Hot-Zone Snowpark in Gerlos, situated at 2,020 meters, covers an area of 30,000 m². It’s perfect for both beginners and advanced riders. Additionally, the Gerlosplatte in Hochkrimml offers a small but excellent snow park, ideal for beginners and children looking to improve their skills.
Tobogganing
Toboggan enthusiasts will find plenty of options in the Zillertal Arena. The small toboggan run at Gasthof Finkenhof is partially lit at night, making it perfect for children due to its gentle slopes. Just 10 kilometers from Wald im Pinzgau, in Bramberg am Wildkogel, lies the longest illuminated toboggan run in the world!
Pinzgauer Lokalbahn
The Pinzgauer Lokalbahn is a local train connecting Zell am See and (Vorder)Krimml in the Salzach Valley. It offers convenient access to several ski areas and scenic destinations.
